James L. McCollum

James McCollum went home to be with our Lord after a long battle with cancer March 12, 2018 at the age of 70.  James was a long time resident of Camarillo, CA and had most recently resided in Klamath Falls, OR enjoying his retirement.  James was born in Tulare, CA on January 16, 1948 to Paul and Luella McCollum.  He graduated from Tulare Western High School and was drafted into the Army in 1967.  He spent his deployment time stationed in Germany.  He returned to California and settled in the Camarillo and Oxnard area.  He worked for Chase Brothers Dairy in Oxnard for 40 years.  James married Deborah Ledford and they had one daughter.  James had a large group of friends throughout Ventura County and in his new retirement community of Klamath Falls. He served several years as a member of the Pleasant Valley Lions Club participating in the fireworks and car show fundraisers.  James loved fishing and hunting, working on cars and fixing just about anything.  James was a dear friend to many, a loving father, grandfather and brother.  We will always remember his warm smile, generous spirit and helpful attitude.  He will be greatly missed and our memories of him will be cherished always.  James is survived by his daughter Jennifer Morgret (Matthew) three grandchildren: Nathan, Hannah, and Seth of Santa Maria, CA, his ex-wife Deborah of Camarillo, brothers Glen (Bonnie), Clifford and Alford of Sacramento, sisters  Anita Blatner (David) of Bend, OR, and  Ella of Sacramento and nephews Aaron and Stephen Brewster, as well as his aunt Eunice Kincaid of Visalia and uncle Darrell of Michigan along with many cousins and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Allen.  Our special thanks and love go to the Cochran and Lynch families of Camarillo and Somis who have been an extended family to James and the family over the years.  A memorial service will be held at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Camarillo, CA on March 24, 2018 at 1 PM.
