Tribute

Our community sadly lost a pillar on Friday, October 19, 2018 when Jose Diosdado Moreno passed away from sudden illness.  He was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico on October 26, 1954.  He contributed greatly to the helping of saving hundreds of lives from drug and alcohol addiction through the nonprofit Casa De Vida Inc. that he and his wife Juliana both co-founded in 2005.  His legacy will continue in the hearts and mind of everyone he impacted.

He lived a fulfilling life as a husband, father, grandfather, friend and spiritual father to many.
He was a man who knew how to love mankind without making judgments of where they came from. He was a man of great faith and did his best to pass that faith to all he encountered. He worked tirelessly reaching out and helping people addicted to drugs and alcohol and advocated for them at the County Court House and other places throughout the state.

Jose was also a great believer in being a partner in community involvement. He took on many projects throughout the city of Oxnard, whether it be cleaning up street alleys and neighborhoods, assisting with crowd control at city parades, helping out at medical camps, distributing bicycles and toys to children during Christmas time, gardening for the elderly, helping out where needed at schools and churches, etc.

He enjoyed running and spending his spare time reading. He was full of laughter and always full of jokes. He adored spending time with his family and friends. Jose lived his life by this saying “Be of Service One to Another”.

At the young age of 15 Jose became involved with drug addiction which led to him going in and out of prison for over 30 years.  Jose turned his life over to Christ and his transformation began. He attended Oxnard College and received a certificate of Additive Disorder Studies.

Jose is survived by his wife Juliana, father, Francisco R. Moreno, twin sister’s Maria (Ted) Smith, brothers, Juan, Francisco (Magali) , Samuel (Letty), Domingo, and David Moreno. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Genoveva, his sister Rebecca, and brother Daniel Moreno.
He is also survived by his sons, Jose, Adrian (Yvette), Louie (Evelyn), Jesse (Lupita), daughters, Veronica (Tony) Padilla, Victoria, Moriah, Brenda Moreno , step-daughter Vida Zuniga, step-sons Gilbert Rodriguez and Paul Guevara, numerous grandchildren, one great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
