Millie Marie Yarges

Millie Marie (Lewis) Yarges passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 31, 2018 at Coastal View Health Care nursing facility in Ventura, California.

Millie was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 17, 1937. She attended East High School. This is where she met her life-long sweetheart, Paul Edward Yarges. They married in January of 1956 and moved to Oxnard, California in 1958

Millie worked for many years at the telephone company as both an Operator and Administrative Assistant. For the last 25 years, though, she was self-employed as a talented seamstress.

Always concerned for those in need, Millie was a motivated volunteer in the community. She was active with the PTA’s of each of the schools her three children attended, Larsen Elementary, Blackstock Middle School and Channel Islands High School. She participated in the coordination of the annual carnival at Larsen Elementary and volunteered in their Christmas store each year. An advocate for the health and safety of her neighbors and her neighborhood, Millie was also a member of the Neighborhood Council and Neighborhood Cleanup Team.

Even though her concern for those in the community was deep-rooted in her, Millie was, most of all, a loving wife and mother. She was a natural-born homemaker and a talented craftswoman. In addition to her sewing and crafting skills, she was a fantastic cook. One year, she came in in the “top ten” of the All County Cooking Contest.

Still very much in love, Millie and Paul were married for 62 years at the time of her death.

Millie was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Lewis; mother, Gertrude (Lewis) Meyers; step-father, Frank Meyers; brother, Clifford Lewis; and sister, Barbara Alexander, all of Des Moines, IA.

Millie is survived by her loving husband, Paul; daughter, Cindy Aldous (Mark) of Granville, NY; sons, Craig and John Yarges (Ronald Garcia) of Oxnard, CA; sister, Betty Schneider of Sun City West, AZ; grandchildren, Amanda Perkins, Michael Haines, Amanda Green and Justin Aldous; and adopted grandchildren, Bryan Cline and Azurdee Clarke.
