Ruth M. Walker

Ruth (McGurk) Walker, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 1st, 2020, surrounded by her family in her Camarillo home. Ruth was born on May 6th, 1939, in Philadelphia, to Joseph McGurk and Ruth Ford.

Ruth and Jim Walker would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on February 9th, 2020. Ruth and Jim met in Philadelphia, in January 1957, and married two weeks later. She was a supportive Navy wife, throughout Jim’s career, and a loving mother to her four children, until her passing.

Ruth had a passion for traveling with friends and family. Her favorite trips included surprising Jim in Hong Kong during his deployment in 1971, cruises to the Caribbean and gambling in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ruth enjoyed traveling around California to add to her collection of Native American art, displayed in her home. Ruth enjoyed reading and watching NASCAR. As stated by her husband, “She lived and breathed NASCAR. She knew every driver and the history of the sport.”

When her children were grown, and with some encouragement from her husband, Ruth went back to school and graduated from San Pedro High School, in 1972. She became an Office Technician, and later, an Executive Secretary for Camarillo State Hospital, where she worked for 21 years. Ruth did a short time with Ventura Youth Correctional Facility and finished her remaining years of employment at Caltrans. She was awarded with a certificate of employment, from the State of California, for her 25 years of service.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Jim; sister, June Cahill; son Frank, daughter-in-law Carolyn and granddaughter Kaitlin; son Ken, future daughter-in-law Orly, and grandchildren Jay, and Sarah; daughter Denise, son-in-law Steve and grandchildren Cody and Megan; and son Jimbo and granddaughter Jordyn.
