Shantaben H. Shah

Shantaben Shah, affectionately known as Ba, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2021 at the age of 94. She is remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her sons Kamlesh Shah, Kishore Shah, Himansu Shah, daughters Uma Patel, and Rita N. Shah, and her daughters-in-law Rita K. Shah, Uma Shah, Priti Shah, and Sweta Shah. Son-in-law Shailesh Patel, her twelve grandchildren Shamik Shah, Priyanki Bhana, Shruti Shah, Isha Shah, Ankit Shah, Sneha Shah, Shalin Shah, Neha Patel, Hershil Patel, Rajhersh Patel, Adarsh Shah, and Dhara Shah and four great-grandchildren, Anshi Shah, Shrvya Shah, Agastya Bhana, and Avehi Bhana. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Hasmukhlal Shah, son Pradip Shah, and son-in- law Dr. Nipurn Shah.

Shantaben was born on 6th August, 1926, in Cambay, India. A highly spiritual, and brave-spirited lady, she married Hasmukhlal shah at the age of sixteen. A major part of her life was spent in Calcutta and Madras in India, raising her children.

She revered education and helped build a library for her community in Cambay, India. A deep believer in healing the sick, she collected a full list of Indian home remedies for all the common ailments, got a booklet printed, and gifted a copy to many people.

Shantaben believed in living life joyfully, no matter whether the external circumstances were good or bad.

She had been living in USA with her sons and daughters-in-law after the death of her husband in 1991, and visiting her eldest son Pradip Shah in India often until he passed away in 2013.

She was a beloved mother-figure for all her children’s friends and will be greatly missed by them, by all her family, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
